Fuel tank coating?

Gentlemen:
I am getting ready to install my fuel tanks in my M16, and have a question(s).
Got a nice set of new tanks, and they have a nice black paint job on them.

I thought that I saw someone mention Rhino-Lining the outside of the fuel tanks.

My question:  Is it recommended to rhino-line/undercoat the tanks, or just leave them painted black?
Also, am I correct in understanding that there is a plywood base/backing that the tanks should rest on?

There was a plywood backing and base. I plan on using some  1/2" rubber mat from  Tractor Supply.

 I used marine plywood for mine then painted it OD green. As for the gas tank coating I used Line-x which is similar to Rhino. I would check on tank clearances with or without the plywood and tank covers. I found once I coated my tanks I wasn't able to use both pieces of plywood. No big deal.

Just so you know, that’s not paint, it’s powder coating. Much more durable than paint.

Yup...the powdercoat is solid.  I got no doubt that the tanks are well-protected.  Just was sending the question out because I thought I saw someone talking about a 'self-sealing coating' or such on the originals...I know we don't need that, but was looking to see what others have done for the surface of their tanks.
Sorry that I won't see you at York this week.  I got a list of stuff I need to get from you soon.  :-)
