Jon, that's great news regards the homestead!! God bless those firefighters and all their efforts!!!!
BP, that's an interesting bit of info. Just shows one how intercontinental the jet streams are. Was in UK last summer and the African winds created a unbelievable heat wave in both UK and France... and with little to no air conditioning in the UK hotels or restaurants these colonials were hurting units

These fires have been devastating, I was down on a fire on the coast, but did not get called up on this one. I think the Forestry district is keeping a hold of the contract equipment. Lots of people lost everything. Really makes you think.

It does remind you not to take anything for granted. We've had a bad one down here for the last couple of weeks and it's finally under control, but nearly 18,000 acres burned and more than 30 homes on the ground. Hot & windy, plus that area hadn't burned since the '70s, so there was lots of fuel.

Hi all, just want to give an update on my status due to the fire. First, I want to thank everyone for their kind comments and prayers. After spending two weeks living out of a hotel we were allowed to go back home a week ago Saturday. I was lucky, the fire skipped my house. Literally just past my house the fire came right down to the highway where I live off of. Today was the first time I ventured past my house to the town of Vida and it was bad. House after house has gone. The fire burned right down to the roadway on both sides. In all some 400 plus housed burned and over 177,000 acres on fire. As of today the fire is 60% contained. Although my house was spared I have lots of cleanup to due from fallen trees, branches, derbies and ash everywhere. I know what I will be doing next summer. Again, I was very lucky and very thankful. The firefighters cleaned a perimeter around my house and I'm sure kept a hose on it. A big thanks to all firefighters and first responders.

I'm so glad it missed your place Steve. Those poor folks in town! I can't even imagine coming back to find my house on the ground.
