how to upgrade your oil bath air cleaner to the paper type
« on: July 09, 2011, 08:33:10 PM »
i decided to convert one of my oil bath air cleaners to the paper type.

filter number wix 42531

http://www.google.com/search?q=Wix+42531&hl=en&sa=X&tbs=p_ord:p&tbm=shop&prmd=ivns&ei=iQ0ZTqDaF5TWiAKzv9DRBQ&ved=0CAsQuw0oAQ

the original air filter is soldered together and comes apart easily. make sure you mark the seam so when you put it back together you can clock it correctly.

after tacking in the new filter mount run a bead of silicone around the seam to seal it, careful tacking, its very thin metal.

i think the pictures explain the rest

Did you notice any differences in the way the engine ran before and after.

it runs good with the new filter. i had no filter on it before so nothing to compare it to.
these are used in tractors and forklifts with similar size engines so the air flow should be as good or better than oil bath.

hey Steve great info. Just finished mine. but mine was early style i believe. Did you leave the bottom oil pan off for better air? Mine has the smaller , fewer holes at the bottom so i was thinking of leaving mine off

Thanks Steve, since mine is mounted i might just either leave the bottom off or cut a round hole in it and weld a screen.

Thanks for the how to though  :)

Hey guys, ones who updated there aircleaner, what did you do with the crankcase vent tube? I realized i just capped mine at the engine and didnt do anything with it. Should it not be filtered?
