Adding Grease zerks to suspension
« on: March 19, 2012, 07:57:01 AM »
Hey Guys!
I once saw a thread about somebody adding grease zerks to the rear suspension bracket that the volute springs rest on. They did this so the internal shaft could be lubed since it IS required to move w/ the suspension.
I can't find or remember where I saw this, but it looked like a great Idea. I am currently getting these pieces apart and wanted to do the modification before I sand blast and paint the parts.

Thanks!  ???

Ah Yes!!! The ones between the Volute Springs! I have managed to press one of those shafts out. Still 'Gently" persuading the other. There are already zerks on our rear idler pivots. I will be adding them to the spring mounts. I like the idea of the support arms as well.
Do you have any advise while doing this modification?

Thanks for the post

Adding the zerks to the support arms was tough, the metal is hardened. I had to replace all 8 of my original arms during the rebuild because they were worn out. One of the replacements we purchased had the zerk holes already drilled. The outlet hole for the grease is set at 90 degress from the zerk exiting through the top of the support pin. This is the contact surface where the grease is needed. I do not plan on greasing these much, since the open contact surface will collect dirt.
