i contacted Delco Remy directly to see if they still made the big old vibrating contact regulators anymore. they dont. i think a few people  are still selling nos ones but here is my idea. using the case of an old regulator and putting a modern regulator in it. you would have a better regulator at a better price.
the original generators where 55 amp. i have found that the 1955-1962 chevrolet car with ac uses a 55 amp regulator for its generator and i have the part number for it. i haven't tried this one so im not sure it will fit.

 I bought an heavy duty one wire altenator, have not installed yet. But thinking of going back to the original generator, but I will then need to do something about the regulator also.

i have almost tried it 

i purchased a standard brand VR22 regulator on ebay.
if i remember correctly this regulator fits inside the original regulator housing if you remove the VR22 cover and install it on its side.

I know zero about these type of electronics, the halftrack is 55 amp on the generator, these are about 35 amps, will that make a difference. Several of the local generator shops near me, they calm to not know anything about the regulators. I am all  in for some simple that works.

I just found my battery voltage portion of my regulator is not limiting the voltage. There were some internal problems and this was the first check after they were fixed. I will replace the voltage regulator. There is no discharge when the switch is off so the battery cut off is working. I saw the current limiter working when but with the runaway voltage we had to shut it down. I will replace the voltage regulator in the regulator then see how it goes. It would be nice to have a solid state alternative.
