Brass or Zinc Data Plates for the Dash?
« on: December 07, 2017, 07:51:56 AM »
What type of dash data plates would be found on a 1941 White M2? Would they be the Brass ones or Zinc? The remaining two plates on my dash are the zinc/ aluminum type. Also..Are the shift lever knobs the same part as the MB Jeep? This Dash is actually fairly complete.  Light switches are there..just missing a knob. The hood sides feature the letter "S" after the serial number. Also notice the (radio suppression canister?) under the dash. This of course would be found on only radio equipped halftracks. But how many halftracks were radio equipped? Like 1 out 5? 1 out of 10? 1 out of 20?

Found the part number for the shift knobs thanks to a previous post from Steve-O! Knob Part# is BB7213A!

What does your main data plate look like? My opinion is all original data plates were brass. Most tracks that went through a re-build requiring a new main data plate got a zinc plate.

The plate is a rebuild plate when it was converted to an M2A1 in 1943.But The shift diagram plate looks to be Zinc/Aluminum as well and I don't imagine they would have replaced that in 43 as well?

Some shift pattern were added due to modifications in transmission/transfer case interlock.
