30 cal tripod brackets
«
on:
April 01, 2011, 05:43:37 PM »
Had some 30 cal tripod brackets made up. Just picked them up today. The secretary didn't have a cost for them yet, and didn't get that info to me by the end of their work day today. So I don't know what they are going to run for a set yet, but I thought I would share some pictures anyway. We had to make some custom dies to get these to come out right, but I think the results speak for themselves.
Upper.
Lower.
Steve
Edited to now read 30 instead of 50. Thanks for the correction.

Ok, Got the call today on the pricing. I will be selling these for $100.00 for a pair plus shipping. No I'm not making a killing on these as I have to sell 15 pair to break even. If your interested in a pair let me know. These will fit in a USPS flat rate box for shipping.

Steve did the M3 have those brackets on it? What about the M2?

In Hunnicutt's book you see them start to show up in the ordnance photos on the M3A1 and IH M5A1 mounted on the rear door. In most of the photos you can't see the actual mounts in the book because the tripods are in their canvas cover and that hides the brackets, but on page 72 it shows them mounted on the rear door of a T29 (M3A2). I do not know if they were retro fitted on the M3's or not. M2 mounted the tripod horizontally and doesn't look to have used this style mount.

Steve,
Nice work, I have the bracket with two notches.
Can I get just the hooked one or do you need to sell them as sets?
Not to be a niggler but I have always understood the rear vertical door mount on my M9A1 was for the .30 cal tripod.
The .50 mount is larger and was strapped on the fender. I don't think it will fit on the back door.
I only have a .30 cal tri-pod so can't compare.
See Hunnicutt pages 64 and 65.

John,
All I have to go on is the guy who loaned me the originals said they were for a 50. So you could be right, but like you I don't have a 50 to try them on.
I can sell one separate but I would have to get a little extra to split a set.
All, I will be a Dayton with some friends and family selling in outdoor booths P5 & p6. I won't have tons of HT parts along so If you want something let me know and I will bring it along. I will also have lots of used M37 and Mighty Mite parts, and even my first foray into repro M37 parts with me.

In the TM 9-710, pg. 70, it lists the following:
Item - Mount, tripod, machine gun, cal. 30, M2
Where carried - On outside of rear door
Item - Mount, tripod, machine gun, cal. 50, M3
Where carried - On side rear body in brackets provided
Haven't seen any pics or drawings of the second one though...

"M2 mounted the tripod horizontally and doesn't look to have used this style mount"
The M2 and M4 have brackets that are similar to if not the same as the scout car, and the M4 brackets are vertical on the rear left armor.
