Marking Question
« on: September 21, 2023, 07:07:28 PM »
Hey Guys,

We are taking "Lucky 13" to an event this fall where we will be portraying a recon troop inside the 90th ID.  my question is how would i mark my vehicle?  i think it might be 90 - X left side and R - 13 (vehicle number) on the right side.  Anyone there know if that would be correct?  since it was an organic unit within the division and not a recon  unit attached to the division, I am not sure how it should marked....

Thanks

Shon

Hey Shon. Great that you're getting your half-track out for more folks to enjoy! Try to raise 67tank on here. Pat is way up on all of that. Have fun!

As I’m sure you are already well aware the 90th ID organic recon unit was the 90th Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop (Mechanized).  Not to be confused with the 90th Cavalry Reconnaissance squadron (Mechanized) which was assigned to the 10th Armored Division.
FM2-20 goes into detail the difference between the troop in an ID and SQD in an AD but half tracks were assigned to the HQ section in the cav recon troop
See link if interested:

So your Halftrack would be in the HQ section of the troop.  Since it’s only one troop I’m not sure if they used the usual A,B,C, D,E  (since it’s only 1 troop)

So for div/unit it would be 90ID/90R or 90I/90R

But not sure for the troop marking….
Anyone else have a suggestion?
