bottom seat cushions, any wood bottoms?
« on: April 30, 2014, 01:17:08 PM »
I have my backs out to the upholstery shop and they are asking about the seat bottoms. One question i have, are the seat bottoms all material or is there wood platforms in them like the backrests?

No wood in the seat bottoms.   All canvas with a zipper.   Originals used army blankets as padding inside.

I can take some photos of the seat cushions tomorrow. I have a bolt of fabrick that I think will work for seats. I'm going to check prices to have cushions made. Will let you know what I find out.

The cushion for the driver and co-driver seats are 14" X 12" X 2" thick. I got a set of these NOS a few years back. The rest of the cushions are 14-1/4" X 14-1/4" X 4-3/4" thick. There is a zipper starting half way on one side, along the front and half way to the other side. Inside the cushion is supposed to be a US GI blanket. I have a foam insert. Here are some photos.

I have a large roll of fabric that I acquired through Bob Gillard that I took to a upholsterer to get a quote on getting these made with me providing the material. It isn't cheap. I'm still looking. Beachwood Canvas makes the larger cushion without the zipper for $75 but no price with the zipper. If their is an interest in the cushions I will pursue getting quotes.

Great pics/info. Thanks. Are the rear troop seat bottoms same thickness as drivers seat?

Andy,

As stated above the driver's seat is 2" thick and all the troop seats in the rear are 4-3/4" thick. If you use the thicker cushion for the driver or co-driver's position your eye level is at the upper part of the windshield, almost looking over it. And I'm short.
