An M-16 would be very cool,if you have the quad fifty set up already, but the M-2 and the M-16 used different frames, there were field modifications were they took a quad fifty and mounted them into the bed of an M-2, they didn't use the fold down side armor of the M-16, they had a spacer ring which raised the mount above the armor, so depending on what you have to work with will decide what you can build. The quad mount in the M-2 would probably be the easiest and most interesting!

M16 too heavy and high for most people. Your tow vehicle and garage door height might tell you which way to turn.

Great track!I believe the A2 would have had a rear door. Can't tell from the photos.

Are they both complete with armor and rear bed floors? Drawings for the M-2 armor are listed here. Do you have the quad mount for the M-16? There are many variables to consider, if this is your first build the M-2 would be an easier job. The biggest drawback of the M-2 is no rear door so it's a little tough for parades,especially if you want to give veterans a ride,how about posting picture of the two units so we have a little better idea what you are starting with.

I live outside Banks, Oregon, about 40 miles due west of Portland. I think it was going to be turned into something other than an M16 before I got it because there is no rear door or bracing to put one in. everything rear of the cab and above the floor is new from the previous unknown owner.I do plan on putting in a rear door just for ease of access. luckily it runs though it has no brakes and the master cylinder is rusted really solid into the frame. Since I haven't learned the art of double clutching I'v only driven it in 1st and letting off the gas seems as good as brakes, it rolls like a flat rock.
I haven't found numbers yet but the way the shovel handle bracket sits on the foot step as opposed to the side of the cab seems to me to mean it originally was an A2. the cab nameplate just calls it an M16 period, but I have no idea if that is the original plate. The passenger side engine hood armor is has a faint black "broad arrow" (Israel??).
driver side looks original so I may be able to pull numbers with some careful sanding.

Well you got lots of HT owners in Oregon. There 2 owners up in Saint Helens and Claskinine. Steve and I are down in Eugene. There are few more in Portland! If you can try to get Hunnicutt's book on US armored vehicles, good reference.
Pretty much the parking brake can do a good job of stopping you. My hydrovac went out so I'm just using the master cylinder only right now, seems to stop ok. Just have to push real hard!

I've never had much in the way of brakes on mine either, it only goes into town once a year and maybe to a show if I can find transport, but the hand brake will hold it on a roll back flatbed, and I never go over 25MPH so just depressing the clutch is enough to slow them down, one year I got ambitious and power bled the whole system and got fairly decent brakes for the whole summer, but the booster and all the cylinders need to be rebuilt,maybe someday!
