Confusion

Been watching videos on how to and not to clean engine block for new head gasket. What’s you guys opinion

I use a gasket scraper and a razor blade, be careful not to nick the surface. Wipe down the surface using brake cleaner. Make sure any old material is removed. I would also put clean rags into the cylinders to help minimize any debris from going in there. Also keep the area around the valves clean. After scraping and cleaning you can use a shop vac to pull out any left over debris around the valves and cylinders.
 Just as important to a clean surface is chasing the head bolt threads. Make sure they are clean for accurate torque.

When you get it cleaned off go over it with a scotch bright pad to get the glaze off and wipe down with carb cleaner.

CLEAN!!!!
Chasing threads in block AND cleaning threads on bolts VERY important.
AND make sure all debris cleaned out of holes in block for good torque readings.

You can also run a straight edge across mating surfaces on head and block to ensure
no big issues. Obviously the flatter the better.

Thanks for the advice, I’ve been doing everything you suggested. Have head at machine shop and ordered new head bolts. Just worried about the aluminum oxide from the Scotch-Brite pads and wheels

Last step brake cleaner and lots of clean rags.
Need to clean out cylinders too!!!

Using a scotch brite pad is better, with the wheels the debris flys everywhere. As long as you are aware of cleaning it all  from whats left behind with the pad you should be ok.

When I rebuild older engines such as the 160AX, and when I haven't had the block and heads decked, then I use the copper spray sealant on head gaskets.  It has worked great for me over the years of engine building.
